A veteran of the Iraq war has faced a lot of problem since his return from the battlefield. The man served three tours in Iraq over the course of his 10 year career in the military, and saw horrific tragedy. Now, the Newport News resident has been charged with involuntary manslaughter for a crash that resulted in two people's deaths following a string of drunk driving charges during his time in the military.

The man showed past signs of post-traumatic stress syndrome, a disorder that affects people who have been exposed to great trauma, and is common among military personnel who have served in war zones. Now, the man is faced with criminal charges that carry very serious penalties.

Even though this man is facing charges, there is no denying the death of the two other people involved in the accident is tragic. If veterans receive proper treatment for PTSD, accidents like this one might be avoided. Unfortunately, sometimes soldiers don't get the treatment they need, and they may end up hurting themselves or others.

It is possible that, with proper treatment, soldiers and other people suffering from post-traumatic stress can avoid hurting people in the future. If someone is involved in an accident stemming from drunk driving, they would be smart to contact a Newport News DUI attorney. A good attorney can help formulate a solid defense. They may conduct a thorough and independent investigation to gather evidence regarding the accident, using witnesses and physical evidence. A defense attorney can help get the accused person the help they need.
